The Marine Court of the City of New York dates from 1807, when the justices' court of the city was authorized by the state to deal with marine records and was declared to be "a court of record," which could naturalize aliens. Continuing his earlier work on naturalization records, Dr. Scott abstracted 3,454 records in this volume. The entries include the name of the person naturalized, his or her sponsor, place of former allegiance, and the date the oath was administered. All entries carry a citation to the full record and often the date of the declaration of intent is shown as well. Indexed.
